Unused Account Ferret – Useful Tool for Network Admins
Who can benefit from the functionality the ANIXIS-developed application Unused Account Ferret provides? The application can be used in a corporate environment (small or large organization) to help out system administrators. How does Unused Account Ferret help system admins out? Why the application helps them manage and make the network safer
To be more precise, Unused Account Ferret can lend a helping hand in identifying and removing unused user and computer accounts. With a name like Unused Account Ferret, what did you expect it to do? Unused Account Ferret queries the domain controllers and presents the sys admin with a list of unused accounts. The admin can then disable the account, or should the need arise, delete the account manually.
Speaking of deleting things, Unused Account Ferret can delete more than just unused accounts. It can also delete Microsoft Exchange mailboxes and home folders that are associated with the unused accounts.
Why would anyone need to disable or delete an account? Let me answer that question with another question: Would you like the account of an employee who left the organization to remain active? I would not believe how many times that happens. An employee is fired, or the employee leaves the organization, and his account remain active for months or even years. From a security point of view this is not desirable – the unused account represents a means of unauthorized access to the company’s network.
The system admin needs only get Unused Account Ferret, feed it some parameters, and the application will “ferret out unused accounts.”
